A day Observing School Based Agricultural Education

Image
Like I have mentioned earlier, I have been deciding what I am looking for in my Student Teaching Internship for Spring of 2024. In my last blog, I said that I am looking to teach agriculture mechanics, have a good relationship with my cooperating teacher, and a robust Supervised Agriculture Experience Program. Well, after coming up with the criteria I am looking for in my program, it was time to go explore some schools. I asked my advisors for their opinion on some schools that I should go visit, based on what I am looking for. I figured since they were in this profession a lot longer than I have, they would have the best knowledge of the programs in PA. So, after getting their recommendations I decided to go visit Cedar Crest High School and it definitely did not disappoint! I am going to highlight some things about the program that I think we very cool.  Cedar Crest High School Mr. Phillip Haussener, Ms. Claudia Brady, and Mr. Darren Grumbine are the awesome Agricultural Educator...

Spring Break in Minnesota!

Image
As many of you know, I was able to spend my Spring break in Minnesota teaching at Minnewaska High School along side of Mrs. Tiffany Kobbermann. I got to teach her Global Agriculture course which consisted of about 10 upper classmates. I had such a fun time teaching these students about global agriculture and how they can be an important part of their community. I am going to highlight some of the cool things that happened during this week and how they impacted me! Headed North We flew out of Philadelphia Airport around 130 on Saturday afternoon. Emily and I made it threw security in about 10 minutes, so we had some extra time to kill in the airport. We were very shocked, but would have rather been early rather than late. So, we decided to find the Chic-Fil-A  and have some lunch. We met up with the Noah and Brandon and boarded our flight! It was very cool to get to see Minnesota from the sky, as it was all white! When we landed in Minneapolis, and were greeted with cold weather and...

What Do I want in my Student Teaching Internship?

Image
Welcome Back! If you have been following along in life, you know that I have been touring school districts to possibly student teach at in the Spring of 2024. Today, I want to tell you what I have been looking for in those sites. Obviously, there are so many great schools and teachers to complete my 15 week internship it, so how do I determine what is best for me?  I came from a very strong FFA and Agriculture Program at Oley Valley High School. We have a lot of rich history, as our chapter was chartered in 1932. We have huge community support from the fair organization and other groups. Our admin is very supportive of the FFA and agriculture program. We had access to some very cool resources such as the Greenhouse, Garage, Food Science Lab, Grow room with aquaponics and Hydroponics. They have recently added a Vet tech room with tools for students to learn the techniques with how to groom and care for pets. As far as agriculture courses offered, there was a lot of variety to ...

Global Learning in Agriculture!

Image
What is GLAG? February has been a crazy month with so much going on as this semester kicks into high gear! It wouldn't have been made without the GLAG kickoff week! GLAG stands for Global learning in agriculture community. Every year, in the beginning of February they kick off the year of learning with many fun activities and guest speakers. This year, as a member of the GOALs group, I was able to participate in many fun things! This also included daily challenges to interact with people within the community How do we all stay connected? This community is comprised of people from all around the world! I was lucky enough to meet some pretty cool educators from Australia, while I was in Iowa in October. Now, I can still interact with them through our online source, Mighty Networks! The way that I like to think about this, is like an upgraded Facebook account for Global Partners. You can ask any questions you may have, share resources, and comment on anyone's post! It is a great r...

Heading to find some Snow!

Image
Headed North! As many of you have heard, I am headed to Glenwood Minnesota for Spring Break! I figured since Pennsylvania hasn't really had a winter, that I needed to go find some snow! Not really, but here we go! How did this trip come about? Last May I was selected to participate in the GOALs program which stands for, Global Orientation to Agricultural Learning. With this, I was able to attend the World Food Prize in Des Moines Iowa and the second part of my immersion occurs next week! I will be traveling along with, Emily Jay, my travel buddy to Minnewaska High School to teach some lessons about global Agriculture. I am lucky enough to teach 12 juniors and seniors in a global agriculture class. I am excited to get to interact with them and do some fun activities! I will be teaching lessons on the World food prize, the laureates, sustainable development goals, seed vault, and common crops! Emily and I will also be working with a group of elementary schoolers on Tuesday afternoon...
