How to Catch the Students Attention!

Image
Our 2nd teaching lab of the semester was the interest approach lab! We were tasked with creating a fun interest approach for one of out lessons for the spring. I decided to use an interest approach that I had planned for my 3rd lesson in my Pig Butchering Unit! This interest approach revolved around Bacon, so I was sure that it was going to get them interested! The Title of my lesson was "What is the Process for Pig Butchering?". During this lesson, Students are going to be learning the steps that they are going to perform next week, when we butcher the pig. The Bell work for this lesson, is students recalling the 8 pork retail cuts that they learned yesterday. I want students to really know the breakdown of a pig on paper, before we get to the real pig.  After the Bell Work, I introduced the Interest Approach, which was a puzzle activity. I had 6- 9 piece puzzles all shuffled together. So, there were 54 pieces but instead of making one puzzle, they made 6 puzzles. On these p...

First Day of School

Time is flying by, as we are in our Fourth week here at Penn State! How exciting!! Things are really starting to get fun as we are diving into some exciting content such as Scope and Sequence, Unit Plans, and Small Gas Engines! We also got to teach in our first lab for AEE 412, which was the First Day's Of School lab! We were tasked with writing a lesson plan for a 40 minute class period, and then choosing 10 minutes of it to teach to our peers! I am going to explain what I prepared for this Lesson and some reflection on how it went! For my First day of school, I wanted to answer 3 questions throughout the lesson:  1. Who am I? 2. What are we going to be Learning? 3. Who are the learners in the room? Over the weekend, I was playing games with my family and my Fiance's niece wanted to play the game "Spot it". This is a card game with circle cards, and a bunch of different objects on the cards. Each of the cards has at least 1 matching object between them! When I was r...

My Unit Plan Reflection

We all know that the favorite pastime of a teacher, is writing unit and lesson plans. Well....maybe not, but that is what I have been up to the past 2 weeks at the beginning of the semester! In order to have good classroom instruction, teachers need to have good unit and lesson plans to guide the class. Since these are a necessity for good teaching, it is important to be able to write a quality plan! We have been given the opportunity to write Unit Plans, and then have peers revise them! We were tasked with writing one Unit plan, that was our best work, in order to get good feedback on it. I think that this was an interesting time to do it, since this was our first time writing a unit plan! While at Bootcamp, Mr Haussener and I laid out a general outline for an Integrated Pest Management, so I decided that this would be the Unit that I submit for this assignment.  After writing my Unit plan, I felt very good about what I had just completed. There were some thing...
