Global Learning in Agriculture!

What is GLAG?

February has been a crazy month with so much going on as this semester kicks into high gear! It wouldn't have been made without the GLAG kickoff week! GLAG stands for Global learning in agriculture community. Every year, in the beginning of February they kick off the year of learning with many fun activities and guest speakers. This year, as a member of the GOALs group, I was able to participate in many fun things! This also included daily challenges to interact with people within the community


How do we all stay connected?

This community is comprised of people from all around the world! I was lucky enough to meet some pretty cool educators from Australia, while I was in Iowa in October. Now, I can still interact with them through our online source, Mighty Networks! The way that I like to think about this, is like an upgraded Facebook account for Global Partners. You can ask any questions you may have, share resources, and comment on anyone's post! It is a great resource for a new and beginning teacher like myself to gain knowledge from people who have been in profession a lot longer than I have!

Dr. Alexa Lamm!


On Thursday Evening, we had the awesome opportunity to interact with the guest speaker, Dr. Alexa Lamm. She is A Professor of Science Communication in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication at the University of Georgia. She had a great presentation on how we can all communicate within global agriculture. We communicate with people everyday, but how can we make sure that it is effective? She brought many tools to the table and how we can reflect on our communication experiences. 





I am excited to see how I can use this community to benefit me as I grow into the teacher that I aspire to be! I also want to be able to share resources that I am proud of, for other people to benefit
from!

A week of Culturally Responsive Teaching

This week, we got to explore the topic of Culturally Responsive Teaching. This was somewhat of a new topic to me, as the high school that I came from was mostly white students. This week made me realize that Culturally Responsive Teaching can mean so much more than race, which is a thought that I had prior. My biggest takeaway from the week, is that I want to understand where my students are coming from and what they are going home to. Introducing Ms. Paige Rohrbach

The 2024, Pennsylvania State University Agricultural and Extension Education cohort embarked on their student teaching journey, we have been asked to reflect on our experiences through a blog. I have begun to think about how I ended up here and where this crazy journey is going to take me! I encourage you to follow along as I begin my journey as an Agricultural Teacher. Over the next 18 months, I am going to share the highs, lows, accomplishments, and downfalls.  A little bit about me I grew up in small town in Berks County, called Oley Valley! We have one traffic light, one grocery store, and many cows! I didn't grow up on a farm, but was surrounded by agriculture my entire life. My Grandparents owned a small dairy farm, until they sold it in 2009. From what I was told, I was very afraid of the cows and would not step foot in the milking parlor or barn. First Day of School

 Time is flying by, as we are in our Fourth week here at Penn State! How exciting!! Things are really starting to get fun as we are diving into some exciting content such as Scope and Sequence, Unit Plans, and Small Gas Engines! We also got to teach in our first lab for AEE 412, which was the First Day's Of School lab! We were tasked with writing a lesson plan for a 40 minute class period, and then choosing 10 minutes of it to teach to our peers! I am going to explain what I prepared for this Lesson and some reflection on how it went! For my First day of school, I wanted to answer 3 questions throughout the lesson:  1. Who am I? 2. What are we going to be Learning? 3. Who are the learners in the room? Over the weekend, I was playing games with my family and my Fiance's niece wanted to play the game "Spot it".
